For the Gazette
PLOVER – On Oct. 16 walkers will fill the moon lit/pumpkin lit Tomorrow River State Trail for Moon Walk Wisconsin. Participants will walk in a non-competitive four, eight or twelve-mile walk. Moon Walk is one of a series of annual events offered by Active Portage County, motivating Central Wisconsin to live healthier, more active lives.

The 12-mile event will begin at 6:00 p.m., and the four and eight mile events begin at 7:00 p.m., with on-site registration/check in for all events beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the west side of Metro Market in Plover (the Tomorrow River Trail runs behind the store), 1850 Plover Road, Plover. Tricks and Treats will be available on the route and at the finish. Costumes are optional, but recommended for those young at heart.

“Active Portage County began in 2005 to promote healthy living by encouraging people to get outside and walk. The Stevens Point area prides itself on having some of the best walking trails in the Midwest and we want people of all ages and abilities to get out, get active and enjoy the outdoors year-round,” said John Jury, Active Portage County board member.

Register online at ActivePortageCounty.com, and call 715-344-2556 with questions.

This unique, annual event is a spin-off of Walk Wisconsin. Walk Wisconsin is a non-competitive full, half and quarter walking marathon that takes place on the Green Circle Trail in Stevens Point/Plover on National Trail Day, the first Saturday in June. For more active fun join Active Portage County for Hard Rocks Hiking Challenge at Standing Rocks County Park on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Registration is live at ActivePortageCounty.com.

Active Portage County is a non-profit organization which seeks to create a healthier Portage County by encouraging citizens to get active and lead healthier lives through programs and planned activities that motivate citizens to get regular exercise, while educating the public on the risks of sedentary lifestyles.
