Bridging the gap: WNP kicks off month long Bike Hike event
By Taylor Hale
PORTAGE COUNTY – Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners of the Americas are hosting their 14th annual Bike Hike this month.
The event sees riders tallying up their miles, to collectively reach 2,350 miles by Oct. 31. The length is the rough distance between Wisconsin and Nicaragua.
Registration and t-shirt pickup is available at the Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners warehouse, located at 2139 North 2nd Drive, Stevens Point.
The event is designed with options of organized walks or rides or simply at the participants convenience during October.
Participants in Nicaragua will also be logging their miles, in an attempt to reach the needed distance to bridge the gap between Wisconsin and the Central American country.
Staff noted that the event fits well with social distancing guidelines during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“Strangely enough, the way the annual Bike/Hike has been designed since 2007 fits quite well during a pandemic – social distancing is easy while still getting outside and the event can be done in small groups or as individuals, with no specific time or date other than during the whole month of October,” said a representative.
Registration prices and information can be found online. To learn more about this event or the Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners of the Americas, visit: wisnic.org/contactus/.
