2022 capital budget and improvement plan approved

STEVENS POINT – City leaders approved the 2022 capital budget and the 2023-2026 capital improvement plan during an Oct. 11 finance committee meeting.
Comptroller Corey Ladick said that not much has changed since the September presentation of the budget, except for roughly $285,000 for road construction and an additional $90,000 for sidewalk repair and sidewalk continuation.
Other notable projects include a police garage update, new lighting at Bukolt Park, funding for the Plover River Crossing Project, road renovations, and much more.
Alder Jeremy Slowinski stated that he felt the city was taking on too many new projects while it was struggling to maintain existing efforts.
He noted the addition of the John Groholski Park to the city’s park maintenance efforts last April as an example.
“Here we have a new entity coming into the city that the taxpayers will have to fund,” Slowinski said. “We had a hard time taking care of the stuff we had already and now we are pushing our existing needs.”
The motion for approval was made by Alder David Shorr and seconded by Alder Polly Dalton.
Council President Meleesa Johnson thanked the department heads for their hard work in fitting within the budgetary boundaries and their dedication to the city.
