Panther football bests Marshfield

MARSHFIELD – The SPASH Panther football team headed to Marshfield’s Heiting Community Stadium on Oct. 15 for a Valley Football Association showdown. The Panthers would find their stride in the second quarter and pull ahead of the Tigers and win the game 29-6.
Point would strike first with a Riley Warzynski to Peyton Pumper touchdown in the first quarter.
Marshfield quickly turned around and put their own six on the board when their quarterback, Trevor Foemmel ran in for a touchdown.
Stevens Point went on to score 22 unanswered points in the remainder of the game. In the second quarter Braylon Smola ran in a touchdown and Pumper would also score again before the end of the first half. The halftime score was 22-6.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Panthers would score again with a Warzynski to Jayden Zelinski 15-yard touchdown pass.
Warzynski was 14 for 24 in passing with 169 yards gained. Quinton Martin led receptions for the SPASH team with a total of 97 yards and Pumper added 43. Smola carried the ball nine times for a total gain of 39 yards.
SPASH is tied at the top of the VFA leaderboard wit ha 6-1 record. They are currently tied with Wausau West and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
The Panthers will host Chippewa Falls at Goerke Field on Oct. 22 for Level 1 of the WIAA Playoffs. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
