Tuesdays with the Mayor: Nov. 16
By Taylor Hale
STEVENS POINT – Mayor Mike Wiza sat down with Gazette staff to give an update on Stevens Point developments. Wiza touched on Shop Small Week, the 90 FM Radiothon, and more.
Shop Small Week
Wiza is encouraging locals to get out and shop during Shop Small Week in Stevens Point. The week-long event runs from Nov. 20-27, ending on national Shop Small Day.
Locals can visit downtown businesses to pick up a “shopping Passport,” that will allow them to receive a punch for each shop they visit during the week, making them eligible for raffle prizes at the end of the event.
Prizes include a $200 gift certificate, usable at any participating business.
An event kick-off will be hosted in the downtown square on Nov. 20. To learn more visit the Shop Small Week 2021 page on Facebook.
90 FM Radiothon
The 2021 90 FM Radiothon fundraiser will be on Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The fundraiser sees guests bidding on packaged gift baskets donated by local businesses and organizations. Gift baskets can include anything from guitar cases filled with CDs to Packer game tickets.
To learn more about the gift baskets and participating businesses visit 90fm.org or call 715-346-3755.
Playhouse Theatre Group Production
The Playhouse Theatre Group is hosting their rendition of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka KIDS on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.
The prefaces take place at the Ben Franklin Junior High auditorium in Stevens Point.
The show is free to attend, but the staff is asking guests to bring in unwrapped new Christmas gifts. The donations will be given to the Family Crisis Center in Stevens Point. There will be a donation box in the theatre lobby before each show.
Wiza said that city crews are hard at work putting up holiday decorations throughout the city. The downtown tree in the square went up during the week of Nov. 8, along with decor on street light poles. Wiza said more holiday cheer is to come as the holiday season grows closer.
