Pointers men and women win Wheaton invite

WHEATON, IL – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team won the Wheaton invite. The men’s team finished with a score of 1261.5 and the women finished with a score of 870.5.

On the men’s side, Sam Young (Verona) won the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:05.93. Young also swam a leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay along side Will Lennertz (Muskego), Kody Hellenbrand (Madison) and Owen Miller (Mequon) with a time of 3:05.41.

Miller won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.38, an NCAA consideration time. Lennertz went on to win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.55.

Gus Grimstad (Decorah, IA) took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.71. Jacob Larsen (Albany) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.80.

William Buhler (Racine) finished second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA consideration time of 2:04.55.

On the women’s side, Anna Pilecky (DeForest) won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:31.03 and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.01.

Kasey Fris (New Lenoz, IL) placed second in the 400-yard IM and third place in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 4:44.74 and 1:00.22, respectively.

The relay team of Julia DeGroot (Kimberly), Kyra Goedken (Green Bay), Haley Dees (Normal, IL) and Fris placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:40.77. DeGroot also tied for third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.80.

The Pointers will return to competition on Jan. 14 with a conference dual against UW-Oshkosh.

Men

1650-yard freestyle – 2nd – Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, IL) (16:47.81)

Women

100-yard butterfly – 7th- Tiana Cachuela (Oakdale, MN) (1:01.55)

200-yard breaststroke – 4th- Mimi Trenary (Moline, IL) (2:32.63)
