Catalytic converter thieves arrested

PORTAGE COUNTY – Police arrested two men attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a residence on Illinois Avenue at roughly 3:37 a.m. on Jan. 4. The arrest was made after authorities received a call about a suspicious silver Cadillac with three males around 2:42 a.m.
The officers made contact with the suspects and searched the vehicle, finding numerous tools used to cut off catalytic converters, a jack, and two catalytic converters.
Police are currently attempting to locate the victims of the catalytic converters, as they are unsure if they were stolen from Stevens Point or elsewhere.
According to police, “at this time, one suspect, Tao Vang, is being held at the Portage County jail on a felony warrant from Dunn County and Hennepin County. Bee Vang is being held on Possession of Methamphetamine charges. The third suspect was released at this time.”
