For the City Times
PORTAGE COUNTY – CAP is offering free tax preparation appointments for those who qualify for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This program offers free income tax assistance preparation and filing to low-to-moderate income tax filers, as well as persons with disabilities, the elderly, and those clients with limited English-speaking abilities who qualify for our program.

To schedule an appointment, residents of Portage County can call United Way’s 211 to schedule an appointment to begin the tax preparation process.

Tax assistance will not be offered in person to protect the safety of our volunteers and clients. Returns will be processed by a no-contact method. VITA volunteers and staff will mail a packet that includes what documents clients must provide for their return to be processed.

You can find a list of all documents needed on our website, capservices.org/VITA.

Access to myfreetaxes.com is also available on our website where you can complete your tax preparation online for free from any location. MyFreeTaxes is provided through a partnership between United Way and H&R Block.

CAP Services’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a United Way of Portage County funded program.

CAP Services, Inc. is a private, nonprofit community action agency that has been advancing social and economic justice for people and communities in Marquette, Outagamie, Portage, Waupaca and Waushara counties since 1966.
