STEVENS POINT – On March 23 the Portage County Communication Center received a call from a concerned family member who had received a message, asking them to send the police to their residence.
Upon arrival, a male subject ran to a back bedroom of the residence and a female exited the house. Officers were advised that a domestic disturbance had occurred between the male and female, that the male was intoxicated, that the male had access to several firearms and that he had threatened to shoot officers if they came to the residence.
Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and communications were attempted with the male. While attempting to communicate with the male, the Stevens Point/Plover Joint SWAT Team and Negotiators were paged out.
Phone contact was eventually made with the male and it was determined that he had been able to exit the residence prior to a perimeter being set. K9 Barry was deployed to track the male. after he advised negotiators he would not surrender. After approximately an hour and 20 minutes the male was located in the 3200 block of Echo Dells Ave. in Stevens Point and taken into custody without incident.
The male was identified as a 24 year old Stevens Point resident, Aaron J. Walker. Walker was booked into the Portage County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct, Battery, Criminal Damage to Property and Intimidation of a Victim, all under the Domestic Abuse laws.
The Stevens Point Police Department would like to thank the UWSP Police Department, Plover Police Department and the Portage County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this case.
