For the Gazette
PORTAGE COUNTY – Dennis Schultz, Commander of Central Wisconsin Sail & Power Squadron, America’s Boating Club announced that the organization put up a life jacket loaner station at Portage County Park boat landing on April 27. The installation is located at 4501 County Road E, Junction City.

The station with eight loaner life jackets was provided by CWSPS through a grant from Sea Tow Foundation and was placed at the boat landing in cooperation with the Portage County Park Department and Portage County Sheriff’s Department.

The U. S. Coast Guard requires that a properly fitted life jacket be readily accessible for each person on a boat. There are four different sizes available on the new loaner station for this purpose. The life jackets can be borrowed and then returned to the station for someone else to use.

The Sea Tow Foundation and CWSPS are organizations dedicated to boating safety and education. Sea Tow Foundation has life jacket loaner stations throughout the United States. To find one near you, visit boatingsafety.com/map.

Certified Vessel Examiners from CWSPS will be at this boat landing on Saturday July 9th conducting courtesy boat safety equipment checks. For more information about Central Wisconsin Sail and Power Squadron visit usps.org/localusps/sss-cew.
