OSHKOSH — The Stevens Point Area Senior High varsity tennis team traveled to Oshkosh on Aug 12 to partake in matches against Oshkosh West, Oshkosh North, and Xavier. The team won two of the matches on the day.
In the match against Oshkosh West, the Panthers snuck in a 4-3 win in seven matches. SPASH’s singles players split with the Wildcats 2-2. Tatam Thielman played in the number one spot for the Panthers, winning her match two sets to one. She went 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. Lily Meeks was the other singles winner for the Panthers. She won the first and third sets by going 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. Rylan Woytsik and Mali Palmer lost their singles matches but still had good outings. In doubles, two points dominantly went to the Panthers. The duo of Jessica Kleman and Sophia Brandt won straight sets to win a point for SPASH. The other win came from Bella Williams and Isabel Feist. The two lost their first set but took the final two sets, 6-3 and 10-4.
SPASH then went on to play Oshkosh North later in the day. The Panthers won all the matches in straight sets. The three singles lost a combined five games in six sets. Much of the same happened with doubles. Annika and Berit Borgnes, the number one doubles team, won their match 6-1, 6-0, bouncing back after a loss versus West.
SPASH took its first loss of the scrimmage in the match against Xavier. The match didn’t favor the Panthers, winning only one match out of seven. Borgnes (Berit) and Thielman won the only match in doubles, 7-5 and 6-4.
