Stevens Point Sculpture Park to be offered in a new light
For the Gazette
STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point Sculpture Park will host LIT. The event will offer an opportunity to see the park in a new light, with an evening event featuring illuminated sculptures, dance performances, music, and film.
LIT will feature illuminated sculptures, live dance performances, music with DJ Frank Slowinski, and the debut of the film “Piles” created by Sean Welch.
Throughout the park, 15 pieces will be illuminated featuring sculpture lighting design by Artistic Director Matthew Kirsch and projection mapping design by River Akemann. The evening will kick off with two original dance pieces, Live Alive and In the Mood, choreographed by Artistic Director Angie Nyquist, and performed by Learn & Love It Takes Flight members. Following this, Point Dance Ensemble will perform improvisational dances at different locations in the park throughout the night, under the direction of Artistic Director Amy Sutheimer Barnes.
The Park also welcomed two new pieces this year, featuring; “Loom” by Jamie Weinfurter, from Iowa City, IA, and “Adjacent” by Kara Fleming, from Minocqua.
The Stevens Point Sculpture Park is a 25-acre site featuring woodlands, wetlands, ponds and prairie.
LIT is planned for Sept. 17, at 8 p.m., at 901 North Second Street in Stevens Point.
All attendees are encouraged to bring a flashlight. A map highlighting the illuminated sculptures, dance locations, film debut, music, tent and parking areas will be available on the Stevens Point Sculpture Park Facebook page before the event.
In the event of rain, LIT will be held Sept. 18.
