Point woman dies in I-39 crash

PORTAGE COUNTY – A 43-year-old Stevens Point woman has died follow an Oct. 12 I-39 crash in Portage County.

The accident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on I-39 SB at North Second Street near Stevens Point.

“The crash involved one fatality,” a DOT release stated.

“A trooper from The Wisconsin State Patrol North Central Region responded to a single vehicle,
single occupant, fatality crash on I-39 near the North Second Street overpass, located just north of
Stevens Point, in Portage County.

“A southbound 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan entered the median and struck a bridge pillar. The forty-three-year-old female driver was trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive.

“The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The state patrol will be handling the crash investigation. Names are being withheld pending family notification

Assisting agencies included: Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Police Department,
Stevens Point Fire Department, Plover Fire Department, Portage County Traffic Incident
Managment Team, and Chris’ Towing.

I-39 southbound at North Second Street was closed for nearly two hours.
