PORTAGE COUNTY – The Portage County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the suspect and victim involved in a Nov. 27 homicide.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m., Portage County deputies responded to 10263 Yellow Brick Road in the town of Amherst.

“Upon arrival of responding deputies a 92-year-old male was located deceased inside the residence. A 78-year-old male was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Portage County Jail with the sheriff’s office requesting a charge of first degree intentional homicide,” a Portage County Sheriff’s release stated.

The 92-year-old was identified as Clarence H. Banks and the 78-year-old as Miles W. Bradley.

“Bradley and another individual resided at this residence and Banks was visiting the other individual who is his relation. Also, inside the residence at the time of this incident was a fourth individual who is a relative to Banks and the other homeowner,” a Nov. 28 sheriff’s release added.

“Prior to Banks being shot and killed, Bradley and the other individual who resided at this residence got into a verbal argument. During the verbal argument, Bradley armed himself with a handgun and made statements he was going to kill Banks. Banks exited his bedroom in the basement of the residence and started to walk up the stairs to investigate what the argument was between Bradley and the other individual. While Banks walked up the stairs from the basement, Bradley shot and killed Banks.

“The fourth individual called the Portage County Communications Center and Bradley was later taken into custody without incident.

“Charges have been requested for first degree intentional homicide.”

The investigation is ongoing.
