STEVENS POINT – UW-Stevens Point graduate Felix Torrez-Ponce will be making his Broadway debut on March 26, as he performs in the production of Sweeney Todd.

The show stars Josh Groban as Sweeney Todd, Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs. Lovett, Jordan Fisher as Anthony Hope and Gaten Matarazzo as Tobias Ragg.

Torrez-Ponce is a 2022 graduate of UW-Stevens Point, where he obtained a bachelor of fine arts in acting.

During his time there, the bilingual actor performed in Melting Clocks, Into the Woods, Small Wonders, As We Climb, and Clown Bar with UWSP Theatre & Dance

He was a member of the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center’s Center Stage High School Musical Theater Program while a junior in a Green Bay high school, where he was nominated for “Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor” for his portrayal in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

“It’s surreal, but there’s a lot of moments that keep happening that make it feel more real. It’s amazing to live in that, but you do have to be present and focus on the work at hand,” he told Philomena Dorobek, of the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.

Torrez-Ponce and his fellow cast members will bring the story of Sweeney Todd back to the Broadway stage this spring.

The original production garnered eight Tony Awards in 1980.

The musical chronicles the story of a vengeful barber who partners with a pie shop owner to wreak havoc and “serves up the hottest – and most unsettling – pies in London.”

The musical was also made into a 2007 Tim Burton film.
