Pacelli softball athlete Laine Ilkka looks forward to the final season of her high school career.
As a two-sport athlete, Ilkka will graduate from Pacelli this spring before she sets her sights on college.
Here is a little more about the Pacelli senior:
When did you begin playing softball?
“I started playing t-ball when I was about five, and then I joined my travel team through Plover Fastpitch at nine years old.”
What position do you play?
“I have always played in the outfield and in high school, I play center field.”
Did you participate in any other sports during high school?
“Throughout my four years of high school, I played varsity-level volleyball and softball.”
What are you most looking forward to this spring season?
“With this being my last season of high school sports, I’m most looking forward to playing with my sister one last time. She and I have played volleyball and softball together for the past two years.”
The weather isn’t ideal for softball during this time of the year. Have you gotten used to playing in the cold?
“I don’t know if I’ll ever fully get used to it, but it’s always a challenge to see how many layers we can put on and still be able to move in practice.”
Where do you plan to attend college?
“In the fall of 2023, I plan on attending UW-La Crosse and majoring in chemistry with a business emphasis.”
If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
“I would pick the movie Airplane. My family and I always watch it together when we are up at our cabin. It’s so funny and never fails to make me laugh.”
What’s your favorite type of music? Favorite artist?
“My favorite type of music is pop music. Currently my favorite artist is SZA, but it changes a lot.”
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of school and sports?
“I enjoy being up at my cabin, boating, swimming, snow skiing, waterskiing, traveling, hanging out with friends and playing with my puppy, Bell.”
