STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point will host this year’s Wisconsin State Arm Wrestling Championships at Rookies Sports, located at 3425 Church St., with a portion of proceeds to benefit Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum.

Registration and weigh-ins begin on Friday, April 28 at 7 a.m. and end 30 minutes prior to the start time of their scheduled event the following day.

First on the schedule is the kids, teens and special abilities bracket at 10 a.m. on April 29.

Next up will be Super Matches at 12 p.m. These matches will help to determine overall rankings for a handful of competitors.

Competing for slots in the rankings are the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked competitors, Sam Tabbert and Steven Martinezdelacotera, respectively; Steven Baldwin, Tony Lammers and Paul Konen, who will be competing round robin for No. 14 and No. 15; and Cole Kasper and Brian Martinezdelacotera, No. 4 and No. 7 respectively.

Cole Kasper and Paul Konen are also due an additional match, with the winner to be determined best out of five.

Following Super Matches and their respective awards, master and men’s amateur tournaments will begin at 1 p.m.

Categories include men’s master, for ages 40 plus; men’s grand master, for ages 50 plus; men’s senior grand master, for ages 60 plus; women’s master, for women ages 40 plus; and men’s amateur.

Open tournaments will begin two hours later, at 3 p.m.

Each category will have both left- and right-hand classes.

The event is sponsored by Wisconsin Arm Wrestling, a “group designed to help train arm wrestlers,” according to the organization’s website.

This year’s championship will be hosted by Leander Bonnett, who won the championship in 2020, and Steve Baldwin.
