CAP Services hosts ‘Making Central Wisconsin a Better Home for Refugees’

FOR THE GAZETTE

STEVENS POINT — In honor of World Refugee Day, Worzalla, an employee-owned book printer specializing in printing high-quality children’s books, cookbooks, and hardcover bestsellers, donated books to the Refugees and Immigrant Support and Empowerment (RISE) program. The local book printer made the donation at CAP Services, a nonprofit with programming in five Wisconsin counties – including Portage – aimed at transforming people and communities to advance social and economic justice, a World Refugee Day event which celebrated central Wisconsin’s refugee community with cultural performances, storytelling, a potluck, activities and more.

“Celebrating World Refugee Day in central Wisconsin is an opportunity for the community to learn and understand the needs of refugees,” said Patrick Kabangu, Worzalla Associate and Refugee Support Coordinator for CAP Services. “I am grateful for the contribution Worzalla made to our community’s refugees and know families will enjoy reading these books together.”

Worzalla associate Patrick Kabangu is a refugee who volunteers with CAP Services’ RISE program. The program aims to foster a sense of belonging among immigrant and refugee families by providing programming and resources that support their social, educational, and economic success.

“Central Wisconsin has seen an increase in refugees settling their families here and welcoming them into our community is important to their economic success,” said Brianne Petruzalek, Vice President of Human Resources at Worzalla. “We are proud to show our support for Patrick and the RISE program with a donation of books for our new community members to enjoy.”

CAP Services’ World Refugee Day event is one of many events and community involvement activities. To learn more about how to get involved visit www.capservices.org. Worzalla’s donation to the RISE program is part of the book printer’s ongoing community involvement efforts, which also include a sponsorship for the Portage County Library’s Summer Reading Lit Loot program, the Prime Water Angler’s fishing competition and kids clinic, and more.
