FOR THE GAZETTE

PLOVER — The Stevens Point Curling Club, https://pointcurling.org/, at the Sentry Curling Center, 1515 Maple Dr., Plover has announced that Matt Davis and Dustin Brooks, both graduates of Stevens Point Area Senior High, have been awarded $1,000 scholarships for 2023. Matt will be attending UW-Madison in the fall of 2023 with a major in Electrical Engineering/Mathematics. Dustin will be studying Environmental Science at the University of Minnesota.

The Stevens Point Curling Club (SPCC) is committed to teaching, developing, and promoting the Olympic sport and encouraging the spirit of curling. This scholarship program aligns with the SPCC mission of serving youth in our community, and is awarded to a graduating high school senior who has participated in the high school curling program and demonstrates leadership and involvement within the SPCC club.

Dustin Brooks (left) and Matt Davis are recent graduates of Stevens Point Area Senior High.

“Matt and Dustin have participated in the high school program for three years, and earned varsity letters. They provided leadership within the team, helping new curlers develop skills in strategy and team communication,” said Lori Kawleski, Stevens Point High Schools Curling Coach. “Matt and Dustin volunteered as instructors for the club’s youth program on weekends for 4th through 8th grade. Matt and Dustin are excellent representatives of the spirit of curling and the Stevens Point Curling Club. We look forward to seeing them curl at the collegiate level.”

Funds for future scholarships are raised through hole sponsorships obtained during the Stevens Point Curling Club’s Annual Golf Outing, scheduled for Monday Aug. 21, at the Stevens Point Country Club.   Businesses or individuals interested in becoming a hole sponsor may contact Justin Adamski at [email protected]. The golf outing is a four-person, 18-hole scramble, with an 11 a.m. start. The cost is $125 per player, includes cart, banquet, and hole contests. Contact Matt Weiss, [email protected], to register a team.
