KASH Playground faces four-week closure

FOR THE GAZETTE
STEVENS POINT — The Kids are Special Here (KASH) playground at Mead Park in Stevens Point will temporarily close on Monday, Aug. 21, at 7 a.m. This temporary closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of new rubber safety surfacing around the playground, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience for all visitors.

The decision to close the playground comes after careful consideration by the Stevens Point Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department. The existing playground surfacing has exceeded its expected lifespan and is in a state of disrepair beyond feasible restoration. The introduction of new rubber safety surfacing reaffirms the department’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards for community members, especially children who frequent the playground.
During the closure, the playground area will be securely fenced off, and prominent signage will be displayed to notify visitors of the temporary shutdown. The anticipated duration of the project is until Sept. 15. While the inconvenience is regrettable, this essential upgrade will ensure that the playground remains a safe and enjoyable space for everyone to use.
For any inquiries or concerns regarding the closure and the project, community members are encouraged to reach out to the Stevens Point Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department at 715-346- 1531. The department’s staff will be available to address any questions and provide updates on the progress of the project.
To ensure the safety of all residents and to facilitate a smooth installation process, the public is being asked to refrain from entering the fenced-off area throughout the duration of the project. The cooperation of the community is greatly appreciated as city officials work towards enhancing the safety and quality of our recreational spaces. The Stevens Point Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department looks forward to welcoming community members back to an improved and revitalized KASH playground at Mead Park once the safety surface replacement is complete. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this necessary upgrade.
