WAUPACA – Another day, another quadrangular that area teams partake in.

This time, the Amherst volleyball team hosted its quad at Waupaca Middle School this year because of the sweltering heat on Aug. 23.

Amherst welcomed Waupaca, Rosholt and Cambria-Friesland for a round-robin format.

In a cooling environment, the Falcons finished the evening with one match victory out of three matches.

Rosholt’s season has started on the right foot, beating Cambria-Friesland and Amherst to round out the meet.

The Falcons faced Waupaca in the first match and had a tough time stopping the offensive power of the Comets.

Amherst remained close in the first set by matching some of Waupaca’s offense.

Comet sophomore Peyton Carlson was too much on the outside, helping Waupaca to a five-point lead late in the first set.

She also got set point, 25-19, with a kill from the right side of the floor.

The Falcons couldn’t trade points late in the second, as Waupaca ran away with its second-set win, 25-16.

Amherst moved on to its second match of the afternoon with Rosholt.

The Hornets were coming off a win against Cambria-Friesland and used that momentum to shut the door on the Falcons in two sets.

Rosholt took both sets by double-digits, 25-14 in the first and 25-11 in the second to move to 2-0 in the tournament.

Amherst got back on track in its final match against Cambria-Friesland.

It took two sets to claim victory, a 25-18 win in the first and a tighter, more competitive second set where Amherst won 27-25.

Rosholt and Waupaca, the two 2-0 teams, were each side’s third match.

As proven in the first two matches, Waupaca continued its dominance with a sweep.

The first set showcased a 19-13 Waupaca lead until Rosholt got it back within two, 23-21. The Comets closed it out to win 25-21.

Trading points through the middle of the second set made it a 9-9 game.

That’s when Waupaca went on a 4-0 run, separated itself and eventually took a 25-17 win to take the match.

Amherst’s next game action is an invitational at Lourdes Academy High School in Oshkosh on Saturday, Aug. 26.

Rosholt has a non-conference match with Weyauwega-Fremont at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, at Rosholt High School.
